Bitwig finally here!

It's finally here: the DAW that everyone thought would be vaporware and despite numerous delays into the development schedule and extensive beta testing, version 1.0 of Bitwig will hit the streets. Congratulations to the whole team on finally reaching this release!

200th Post - Bitwig release date finally announced!

How about that: two big milestones in one! My 200th post nicely coincides with the announcement from Bitwig that their DAW will be released on 26th March 2014, according to this nice press release. Of course, a demo will be my first port of call once the release date hits, so I will be looking forward to trying it out and hopefully it will be what I'm looking for - Madtracker is starting to show its age!

NAMM 2014 is here

It's hard to believe that it's been a whole year since the last NAMM show, but this Wednesday marks the Press Open Day of the National Association of Music Manufaturers show in Anaheim. While there is a smaller event at the end of the year (Winter NAMM), this is THE show for all the big music and instrument manufacturers to bring out their new wares for public inspection. While a lot of the products aren't available immediately, it gives the music community an idea of what toys to expect coming out across 2014 and generally foster some gear acquisition syndrome.

BITWIG COMING TO NAMM 2014

Some excellent news from German developers Bitwig in my mail box, who say that they are nearing the end of their Beta testing phase for their software and will be making a big announcement at NAMM 2014 coming up next month. Take a look at the email I received just before Christmas this year for more information.

Touted as a mix of Ableton and Logic with lots of their own ideas and features thrown in, Bitwig has always been an ambitious DAW project and several years later, it's exciting to hear that 1.0 is finally coming.

It's okay guys: I don't mind waiting until January for NAMM and you can bet I'm going to be looking out for all the news and pricing.

State of Bitwig via Sonic State

Fanning the flames of my interest for Bitwig comes a nice 15 minute video with one of the developers at the NAMM 2013 show, courtesy of Nick at Sonic State. In particular it's nice to see that they are quite happy to have one license used across all three platforms they are developing for (Windows, OSX and Linux but no idea what flavour/s) and are really against dongles and other hardware license keys. In the age of Cubase leading the way on this, it's a refreshing change.

The best news? It's slated for a "summer 2013" release for v1.0. I can't wait!

I tried to embed the video but Blogger was having none of it. Never mind - video is available here

Happy New Year!

First and foremost, welcome everyone to 2013! Been doing a lot of other things over the last fortnight, so I thought I'd write a little to set things up for January and hopefully roll on from there.

Namm 2013 winter show coming soon

All eyes will be on Namm for the upcoming show at the end of the month - its always nice to have something to look forward to in the new year to bring us out of the post Xmas slump. Not sure what to expect from this year and the exhibitors but if it is anything like last year there should be some fabulous new kit coming out.
